About Us

Deborah Atkinson has been a shutterbug for more than four decades (man, does that sound old!) and has shared her photography through newspapers, magazines, special event news coverage, greeting cards, calendars, museum exhibits and a non-profit art center. Brett Atkinson is an avid cyclist who also thrives on canyoneering and mountaineering. In his spare time, he maintains this website and keeps Deborah’s computer’s virus protection software up to date.

For the past four years, through her employer Kutak Rock LLP, Deborah has created a 52-week appointment calendar featuring images from throughout Colorado. She spends much of her leisure time in pursuit of new images and is always looking for new ways to use and share her photography.

Following emergency back surgery in 2004, Deborah was temporarily sidelined from her outdoor adventures. Her love of the outdoors, and in particular, mountain climbing, fed her urge to do something creative with her photography during the time she could not be out taking pictures in high altitude. During her recovery, she began to experiment with printing her images on fabric. Her new personal slogan was born.

"If you can't climb them, quilt them!"

During the winter of 2005-2006, Deborah created the first known quilt featuring images of all of Colorado's famed 14ers, mountains reaching 14,000 feet or higher. Deborah received so much positive feedback on her work, as well as unsolicited offers to purchase the quilt or another one like it, the idea of turning a hobby into a business percolated.

Deborah's passion for the intricate patterns of snowflakes, both natural and craft-made, drew her to the name Snowcatcher, flavored by the native American dreamcatchers she created as a youth growing up in southern New Mexico.

Snowcatcher offers an exclusive selection of award-winning photography printed on fabric suitable for use in quilts, clothing, wardrobe accessories and home decor. But please see legal disclaimer here. (These fabric squares are NOT munchable!)

Snowcatcher fabric squares can become more than just an aesthetically pleasing quilt. Imagine a soft and cuddly conversation piece documenting in unique fashion the record of your family's mountaineering achievements. Quilts sporting the dates specific mountains were climbed (embroidered or otherwise embellished) would become instant heirlooms to be cherished by loved ones for many years to come.
