Note: I don't know that we're going to enter the RtR Lottery this year, with the economy being what it is and our summer schedule already filling up with volunteer projects. But we will be training; the MS-150 is always on our calendar. In addition, Brett was #503 to sign up for the Triple Bypass when registration opened January 1, and he's got a few more races on his 2009 wish list. My own personal new year's resolution is to do something every day in January. If I can make it that long, maybe the habit will be established, and 2009 will be incredible!
I saved 150.5 miles of driving by walking to and from the park and ride every chance I got. I also biked to work on national Bike to Work Day in May and biked to work all week during Colorado's Bike to Work Week in June. (And won a bunch of cool prizes for doing so!) I did more walking to work than I hiked this year!!!
I biked a total of 1,824.8 miles, the best I've done since my surgery in 2004. Brett did nearly 5,000 miles!!!!!
I climbed 5,322 flights of stairs in workouts in 2008. That does not count living on a third-floor apartment and all the times I use stairs instead of elevators at work and anywhere else I go. That translates into 65,035 feet in elevation gain. Can I say I climbed a 65er??? That's two-thirds of the way up Oly Mons!
And now for my biggest accomplishment: I shot 24,853 photos with my new D300 in 10 months!!! Brett filled the memory card of my old Fuji twice. Ha ha ha ha ha! I beat Brett at something!!!

NOTE: I DID IT! I achieved my new year's goal. I won't record daily entries anymore,
but I will continue to focus here on rides, hikes and stairs. I succeeded in making this a lifestyle change;
I now look for creative ways to get in some kind of activity, even on days when I can't squeeze much in.
Best of all, this is the first year since I started heavily biking that I won't have to get myself back in shape after winter.
Mission accomplished!

After studying the route, we decided not to jump into this year's RtR lottery.
(So I changed the title of this page to something hopefully more appropriate.)
Anyone who did get up to check out the 2009 route in the middle of the night got a big surprise.
Apparently the site was hacked. For about 15 hours, all it said was, "It works!"

That’s it for this year! We definitely will be riding, hiking and climbing more, but we’ve got boxes to unpack, quilts to finish and websites to build, so this year’s version of the training journal is going to take a long and well-deserved break, and we’ll be back in January with hopefully an actual Ride the Rockies training journal! (2010 Lottery: Please draw us; please draw us; please draw us!)
